Extraordinary antique French serving pot, richly decorated in Louis XVI style.The spout boasts a very unusual strapped, beribboned and winged cartouche framing the mascaron of a young country woman, wearing a head scarf and a serene expression. Each side has large strapped cartouches or panels, with bows, musical motifs and sprays of flowers. Please see the detailed pictures of the flowers. Their design is quite delicate with finely wrought details. The top of the pot has a wide band of exquisitely chased acanthus leafs. The lid has a crossed ribbon edge and quite nice pomegranate finial, again foliate accents chased to perfection. The fluted handle is wrapped with ribbon, and terminates on either side with laurel leaf and berry fronds. The spout further adorned with panels decorated with twining laurel leaf and berry vines on a textured ground. There is more! A plethora of detailed touches that manages to present a fascinating delightful intrigue, capturing the eye and imagination, variations on a rustic theme, whilst avoiding any approach to being overdone or gaudy. A superb piece, graceful and elegant, of museum quality.
