Antique Solid Gold Etui Needle Case: German 1827 Nautical & Religious themes

Wow! This is just an amazing needle case. Multicolored gold and silver hues intricately worked together to create a superb design. The body is a rose hued gold. The cartouche on one side is applied with gold word "freunde" or friend and the year 1827; all on a hand patterned textured ground. On the other side, elaborate interlaced script monogram "LH" encircled within a floral and foliate wreathe, silver blossoms, again on a hand patterned textured ground. On the top the is an anchor topped off with a cross; on the bottom a cross alone. Certainly inspires the imagination; the wife of a sea faring man, prayerful at work on embroidery, mending or creating clothes. Sigh. And here it is, approaching 200 years of age in incredible condition. One can only suppose how cherished this etui was for generations; now on the free market for you to place in your own important collection.

The piece is unmarked; not unusual for a piece of this age and which was doubtless commissioned by........a friend. A lovely testament to friendship.
