This is an antique manual farm tool corn seed planter marked “THE AMERICAN STANDARD” in one side of the handle. The other side is marked “SHEFFIELD MFG CO., BURR OAK, MICH., U.S.A.”. It is also marked “PAT’D OCT. 13, 1891” and “PAT’D JULY 23, 1893”. It is painted red with black markings. The top has a handle with chips that is screwed on. There are 3 holes for different handle heights. The wood near this handle is cracked. It has a can shaped hopper with an inside seed plate that rotates the seeds out one at a time to put them in the furrows. There is a metal flat piece at the end of wire spring that is pushed down opens the bottom to release a seed and rotates the seed plate. It is used with surface rust and wear. It measures 32 ½ “ tall, 11 ½ “ deep and 6 ½ “ wide. It is in good condition for collecting, use or display. There are 9 pictures for viewing. The handle will be shipped detached for easier packing.
