Cooper’s Barrel Makers Bung Borer Auger Wood Handled Tool used for Chair Making

According to page 126 of The Catalogue of ANTIQUE TOOLS Book 2002 Edition Copyright © 2001 Martin J. Donnelly these tools were designed to be used by barrel makers and are now used to bore tapered holes for chair rungs. I thought it was a planting tool until I went through my books. The metal appears to be hand forged 12 ¼ “ long black painted. The wood handle is 10” across. The metal has some paint loss. The wood has a lot of age cracks. The name on the wood is unreadable.
