This postal greeting card is from the 1907-1915 "divided back era", otherwise referred to as the "golden age of postcards". The front has a fold-out booklet cover containing printed leaves bearing a message and poem, the hinged cover with a large oval veneer overlay of very reflective and iridescent mother of pearl or abalone shell foil (not real shell!). Violet colored floral wreaths grace the front, along with gold highlights. Both the booklet and card are brightly printed over profuse raised embossing. The front message reads: "Birthday Greetings"; the inside reads "Greeting to you with all Good Wishes", and the next leaf says "One more Birthday for you/Sweet as I hope it may be./Yet I am wishing each one/to come may sweeter be". On the card behind the last leaf is a hand written message in ink: "From your loving sister Mary 1122 Platt St Lansing Mich".
The address side is printed "SB Printed in Germany" and "Post Card", "Write Here", "The Address Only to be Written Here", and "Place a Postage Stamp Here". 5 5/16" x 3 1/2", fine condition, along with the inside message, penned on the back is: "From Mary VanDorn William Walker". The edges are slightly irregular, as though trimmed to size by hand rather than machine. A very clean and crisp example of these hard-to-locate pearlescent booklet cards!
