Alfred Thompson Bricher - Original W/C painting titled 'Grand Menan Island, Maine' and signed by the artist lower left "A T Bricher". It is on a wonderful paper and in excellent condition. It has preserved over the years, and shows no visable aging. The painting is 9 x 21 and framed is 19 x 31. The frame is a reproduction of a classic frame. It is hand carved wood with gilded gold. This painting has a Gallery Label from Graham Gallery, with an inventory number. It was exhibited at the McNay Art Institute in San Antonio, Tex.; and has an exhibit label. He was born 1837 in Portsmouth NH, and died 1908 in Staten Island NY. He was a member: AWCS; ANA,1879; and BAC. He exhibited at: Boston Anthen.; NAD, 1868-1908; Brooklyn AA, 1870-86; Boston AC, 1874, 1882, 1889, 1894; AIC, 1888-89, 1907-08; PAFA, 1890. His serene, luminist seascapes show the influence of Fitz Hugh Lane and Martin Johnson Heade. He executed his best works during the 1870's and 1880's painting along the coasts of Mass., Maine (Monhegan Island), Rohde Island; and Long Island, especially at Southampton. It is in excellent condition and is typical of Bricher's seascapes with wave action and the rock formations. The painting has very good depth and well defined rocks. You will not find a Bricher painting in better condition! The pictures were taken with a digital camera for true colors and detail. There are a few reflections from the pictures taken with the glass.
