Antonio Jacobsen - Original O/B titled "The Lapland" - signed by the artist lower right "A. Jacobsen", and dated "1910". It is a Steam Ship and is 22 x 36 unframed. His paintings of ships are very much in demand in todays marketplace. The 'Lapland' is identified in the Book "Antonio Jacobsen The Checklist' by Harold Sniffen, page 180, as: "Scw., Belgan, Built in 1908 in Belfast, Ire. by Harland and Wolff, Owner was Red Star Line, Homeport was Antwerp, and Ship size was 17540 tons - 605.8' x 70.4' x 37.4 ' ". Antonio was born in 1850 Copenhagen, Denmark; and died 1921 W Hoboken, NJ where he had lived since 1880. He studied at the Royal Acad. Copenhagen. His marine art is collected by major marine museums including 250 pieces at the Mariner's Museum in VA. He painted many of the steamships that came into NYC harbor between 1876-1919. This painting is a rare Ship painting by this famous artist, and was completed during the years when he was doing some of his best works. The condition is extremely good, and it was most likely cleaned and preserved many years ago. The frame ia a new Motyka gold leaf frame made in R.I., and is a beautiful addition to the artwork. It is in new condition. The framed size of the painting is 32 x 46. It is a wonderful example of his work, and the colors are still bright and full. Pictures were taken with a digital camera for true colors and details. #12500 Index: marine art, artist, painting, painter, decorator, nautical.
