I purchased this ring from an elderly friend. It is such a stunning piece I was tempted to keep it. The ring has various marks on the back. It has tested as 14kt gold and the stone has been jeweler verified as a synthetic pink sapphire. Synthetic gemstones have the same properties as natural gems, but they are created in a laboratory and this is often the case in older rings.The stone is large measuring 11 mms in diameter. The friend I got this ring believes it was given to her about 50 years ago and brought over from Ireland. I cannot find these marks to be Irish. The first is a sideways profile followed by the number 3 another profile and the letter W. The last mark is a plant or a wheat stalk. While I agree it is a European ring, I cannot pinpoint the country. The ring is a size 7. The filigree work is just tremendous. The face measures 11/16ths in diameter - just under 3/4 inches in diameter.The ring weighs 6.5 grams and is in excellent condition. A few scratches to the back band - hard to see with the naked eye.Please ignore shadows and reflections on the gold and the stone caused by my picture taking.
