Sophisticated and classical, expressionist and abstract minimalist nudes in charcoal, graphite, india ink and oil.
7"x5" Oil on 12 oz canvas
In the spring of 2005, I was at the desk of the front office in the Rotary Centre, talking to one of the clerks. In walked a group of about 15 young people, led by an early 20 something black man named Tandi. I was in the midst of booking the drawing room for my life drawing sessions, and I asked him what his group was all about. Turns out he was part of Canada/World Youth organization, which sponsors young people around the world to experience different cultures. Young adults from various countries in Europe, Africa and South America were represented, hosted by families here in Kelowna, for three months. Then they trade countries (those here in Kelowna go to their partner's country.)
Then I asked him if he would like to model for my classes. He said yes! He came to a few sessions, and during one of these sessions I asked him if he thought any of his other group would be interested in modeling for us. He said he would ask, and he did. (I have two left - two have sold, and I gave one to him to take back with him to his home.)
Gobona (sounded Ho-bo-na) said yes. She is from Botswana, and absolutely gorgeous! I did about five or so paintings of her, and I have four left. (I gave her one to take back with her to her home.)
She has mysterious purple eyes.
Colours: white, grey, ochre, blue, green, charcoal lines, sienna, purple
