About Us
I am a multi media artist. I work in 2 dimensional media (charcoal, ink, oil & acrylic painting etc) and also 3 dimensional media (clay, plasticine, bronze). If you see an artwork in a 2D form, that you would love to have in 3D form, please contact me for pricing.
All oil and acrylic paintings are stretched on stretchers, staples on the back, unless noted in the description it is on paper. Projection is approx 1" from the wall unless otherwise stated.
Google Julia Trops for information about me, on the internet. I am currently in two galleries in Canada - Hambleton Galleries in Kelowna, and Gallery Odin in SilverStar Mountain Ski Resort. The plan is to move across Canada and in to the States. If you think a gallery in your area would like to show my work, please let me or them know!
I have been published three times so far - first in a book called Exploring Life Drawing by Harold Stone published April 07 (available from Chapters or Amazon) and second in the local Okanagan Arts magazine published in Sep 07, third, I was asked to write a small monograph for the City of Kelowna's Spirit of Kelowna project. Another book is coming out in the fall called "Spirituality of Music" published by Woodlake books. It will have an image of a Mozart in it. Spring, I am told will be a book called "Spirituality of Sex" which will have some drawings in it. So I guess we'll see.
My favourite medium is charcoal
both compressed and willow:
it is rough and harsh
yet can be coaxed into a gentle embrace...
I like hearing it sing.
I have been drawing all my life - oddly enough, I remember the first face I did, sitting at my kitchen table, with my mom when I was about 4. She drew a face, and then I drew it too.
Well, I am almost 45 now, so guess that was some time ago. But the joy has not ceased, only grown. Even during my 12 year service in the Canadian Air Force, I could not stop drawing and painting.
We moved to Kelowna in Dec 2001 after I received my BFA (Great Distinction :):):)). I was honoured to be selected in the spring 2002 for one of six artist studios, in the newly built Arts Centre in Kelowna out of 78 applicants, and am still there. I have been a full time artist since 2003. I started a life drawing group in 2003, with one session a week. In the space of a few months it went to two sessions a week and in 2005 it was incorporated into a non profit society called Livessence. I am very involved in the arts community in Kelowna, hoping and striving with my fellow artists to develop the arts profile stronger!
Kelowna is a fairly small town, about 130K, and we are fairly isolated being in the Okanagan Valley. This is why I am on the internet. The exposure, albeit somewhat nontraditional, has been fabulous. My work is getting out there, and I have met so many interesting people online!
I love the internet, and the idea of connections to many souls through a heartline.
