A great shell cameo suite with matching earrings that combines sparkling marcasites, silver AND gold...oh my!

This is another lovely cameo set from my best and fastest selling "marcasite ladies" collection. I just love these beautiful ladies in their sparkling settings. And there is nothing like the allure of these amply sized cameos.

These particular beauties portray finely carved opposing portraits of lovely Italian maidens. Always popular marcasite accents are mostly seen set in silver, and only occasionally will you see marcasites in gold or vermeil settings. As a yellow gold lover myself, I always make an exception for silver marcasite gems. Two tone settings are the best of both worlds--gold, silver & marcasites that sparkle like diamonds. Seldom do we come across the matching marcasite earrings laden with yellow gold accents.

Fit for a queen, this most beautiful cameo suite is Italian in origin and expertly carved in good relief (depth) from genuine carnelian shell. The brooch/pendant is very glamorous as she is wearing an exquisite gown, sporting a very fancy hairdo and adorned with a bead or pearl necklace and loop earrings. Her lovely hair is a cascade of curls which are piled high on top and cascading down to her shoulders. She is very striking. The earrings are matching with the same attributes and hair styles. The brooch setting was handmade of 800 (stamped) silver and is encrusted with 8 groupings of 3 dazzling marcasites that are bezel set in the setting. Each grouping is separated by flowers which are 12K gold vermeil. The earrings settings are exactly the same except there are 4 groupings of 3 marcasites. The combination of gold and silver is rare and oh so beautiful. This setting just "draws you in" and really sets these lovely ladies off.

The artist took great care and skill to create the lovely locks and gowns. The fine facial features are exquisite. These features are a testament to this master carver's skill. The excellent carving of these lovely ladies and the dazzling effect of so many marcasites combined the contrasting silver and gold draw attention to this wonderful piece as soon as you enter the room.

The brooch pin closes with a safe and secure locking c-clasp. There is also a hide-away bale for use as a pendant. I am including a 15 inch Italian gold filled, intricately designed chain that I feel is an awesome match. It is a fine compliment to the dazzling marcasites.

The earrings feature their original non-pierced screw back fittings. (Let us retrofit into pierced posts or wires, for only $15.00, so they are ready to wear upon arrival.) The carvings are "opposing" views, facing one another, although I see they were photographed facing "away" from each other. Properly worn with each facing towards your face, there is a definitive left and right earring. Many cameo earring carvings face the same direction. Some ask why there are so few beautiful cameo earrings carvings. The reason? The smaller palette is much more difficult than a brooch sized cameo. Such effort was undertaken in the 1930's-1950's, to keep available cameo supplies up with demand, that not as much details were given to matching earrings, with most found of the "common woman" of the day. Not until the advent of the internet were so many of these earrings viewed with magnification. All three of these cameos are uncommonly beautiful.

The entire pendant setting measures 1 5/8" by 1 1/4" without the bail, and the cameo itself measures 1 3/8" by 1 1/8" The earrings measure 3/4" by 9/16". The total weight of all the cameos is 13.7 grams.

The cameos are in excellent supple condition. The settings are also in excellent original condition with no evidence of repairs and no missing marcasites.

This cameo suite is destined to become a beautiful heirloom. The finely carved shells combined with the fine craftsmanship used in the settings guarantee they are built to last centuries. This suite has all the attributes collectors crave and their carving and construction are one of a kind. Truly the work of a master carver, I guarantee it will draw a lot of attention. A Gorgeous Suite!!
