Shell cameos and genuine coral beads make perfect companions above the sea.

This Italian beauty from the 1930's portrays a finely carved and elegantly coiffed and dressed lady. Fit for a queen, this most beautiful cameo brooch is Italian in origin and expertly carved in good relief from carnelian (cornelian) shell. It features a portrait cameo of a very glamorous woman, wearing an exquisite double strand of pearls and hoop earrings.

The setting was handmade of 14K gold vermeil over 800 silver and is encrusted with a surround of Sciacca (salmon) coral beads. An additional gold wire surround finishes the effect. This setting just "draws you in" and really sets this lovely lady off.

The artist took great care and skill to create his subject's art nouveau upswept hair and lovely curly locks. Her unbelievably fine facial features are exquisite with just the most gorgeous blush to her cheeks you will ever see, a testament to this master carver's skill. The excellent carving of the angelic lady and dazzling effect of so many coral beads draw attention to this wonderful piece as soon as you enter the room.

The brooch pin closes with a safe and secure locking c-clasp.. There is also a hidden bale for use as a pendant. The entire setting measures 1 7/8" by 1 9/16" without the bail, and the cameo itself measures 1 5/8" by 1 3/16". The coral beads measure between 3mm and 5mm and are very fine precious Mediterranean coral. The total weight of this beauty is a very substantial 15 grams as the shell is thick and the coral dense.

The cameo is in excellent condition. The setting is also in excellent condition with no evidence of repairs. The gold is thick, polished and even. This piece would look wonderful hanging from a strand of matching coral beads (email or call, as we have plenty) or a strand of pearls which would coordinate magnificently with the ivory portrait in the shell.

This cameo is a very finely carved piece that will certainly retain its value and is destined to become a priceless heirloom. She has all the attributes collectors crave and her carving and construction are one of a kind. Truly the work of a master carver, she is fine cameo. I guarantee she will draw a lot of attention.
