Such a beauty in pristine condition. This sash pin or faux buckle is approximately 100 years old, from a time in the late 19th century to early 20th century when Victorian and Edwardian women chose decorative belt buckles to accent those tiny waist hour glass silhouettes. Sash pins were much easier to use than belt buckles and were crafted to slide easily into fabrics for the same look as a buckle. These pins can also be worn at any location as a large brooch.

Crafted of brass with a warm yellow gold finish, there are two genuine carnelian stone (banded agate) carved cameos featured at top and bottom. Both portrait cameos are left facing and each is bezel set and measures 13x9mm (1/2" by 3/8"). Both feature intricate carvings of Victorian women. The top carving is missing her nose, but this aspect is not noticeable with the naked eye and absolutely not visible when worn. As this cameo sash pin is in unworn condition, perhaps the pin was knocked against something at some point as there is no other damage that would indicate being dropped.

The entire buckle measures 2 1/2" (63mm) by 1 3/8" (46mm) and features a furled edge design. The stationary curved belt hook gives the appearance of an actual belt buckle when pinned to a sash, belt or clothing. There is a sturdy hinged pin that closes with a wide c-clasp. The brass finish retains its original bright gold color, with no visible wear to the front or back, including the fastening pin. The only imperfection in the finish is an area on the lower left side, perhaps where a sticky price tag has been at some time prior to our acquisition. This area is not viewable when worn and not noticeable unless pointed out. The total weight is 27 grams.

This sash pin would compliment any style belt, ribbon or sash and makes a great focal point worn on any style of waisted or unwaisted dress. It will be delivered in a lovely gift box, perfect for presentation and storage.
