Sweetness never goes out of style. This 1920's beauty is a vision of sugar and spice and everything nice. Masterfully carved with the use of three layers, every aspect speaks perfection.

The lovely shell cameo carving depicts a young woman with perfectly waved hair that is adorned with flower blossoms. Her facial features are soft with gorgeous doe eyes. The details of her youthful beauty are enhanced with an ever so soft blush that flows from her cheek down her neckline. The carver used just the slightest of the third layer to create this blushing illusion at her cheek, as well as in the flowers in her hair and the matching flower corsage at her shoulder. The soft lines given her neck and shoulders are accented with a softly flowing camisole.

The gold filled frame features a deep bezel with heavy twist wire surround that includes a claw like accent at top and bottom. There is a locking brooch pin and a fold down bail for wear as a necklace pendant. The entire setting measures 51mm (2 inches) by 42mm (1-11/16"). The entire setting measures just under 1/2" thick. The total weight is 15.1 grams. The setting is hallmarked "1-20D12K" for 12K gold fill.

The condition of this cameo is excellent and there are no cracks, chips or any flaws. The speck in her hair came off easily with a cue tip. When candled to the light, the cameo glows magnificently. Only with a 10X loupe and when held to the light can one see very faint growth plates between her nose and the bezel. The gold fill finish remains bright and intact with some color loss only on the pin. The pin and locking clasp are in excellent working condition. The fold down bail features an extra wide bail for this period and is excellent working condition.

We have dated this carving and frame to the 1920's, just sightly under 100 years old, given the bail and clasp style, but the cameo itself could be a bit older, around 1900.
