FALL FESTIVAL SALE - Your Antique Coral & Cameo Connection - Free Shipping - Layaway Available
Always a perfect choice, this vintage cultured salt water pearl bracelet from the 1980's offers classic good looks that is versatile enough to wear with formal, office or casual fashions. This would make a great gift for a bride!
Crafted in a woven design, it features 27 6.5mm pearls that are accented on each side by 108 6mm 14K gold beads. It closes with a solid 14K (stamped) gold round clasp with a swirl design that features a prong set 6mm cultured pearl.
These pearls are the cultured Japanese saltwater variety with thick nacre, nice lustre and few natural blemishes. The gold beads are of the hollow variety that became very popular in the 1970's to 1980's for not only bracelet and necklace design accents but for add-a-bead designs, as well. While gold prices are indeed high today, imagine seeing gold prices rise from a 50 year stabilized price of $35 in the early 1970's to $850 in 1980. (If you do "remember", you will remember those 14K add-a-bead necklaces, built one bead at a time.) Only when we view with a 14X jeweler's loupe can we see tiny dents in about 10 of the 108 beads. They are not visible with the naked eye and do not detract from its beauty.
The round gold clasp measures 11.5mm in diameter and features a locking looped tongue closure. The total length of the bracelet closed is 7 1/4 inches. The total width is 11.5mm, or 7/16". The total weight is 12.5 grams.
Visually, this bracelet appears to be much heavier than it is, but the bulk of the weight is in the pearls themselves and the clasp. The weight is actually about the same as a tennis bracelet. Although not feather light, the weave pattern makes it quite flexible and very comfortable to wear. It looks great worn on the right wrist by itself or grouped with other gold bracelets. Its original owner wore it on her left wrist in combination with a gold watch for a very smart look that is still fashionable today.
Cultured pearl bracelets are a great addition to any woman's jewelry wardrobe. Match it with that favorite string of Grandma's pearls or mix it with any other gold jewelry. You can never go wrong with the gift of pearls, universally beloved by women of all ages. This bracelet would even be a great gift for a bride to be!
It was not until the 1990's that technology was available to create fresh water cultured pearls in the beloved round shape, making purchasing pearls quite confusing today. Some new pearls offered today as cultured are actually man made from crushed shells. Buying vintage assures you of salt water, not fresh water or man made pearls.
This lovely bracelet will be delivered in a lovely bracelet presentation box, perfect for gift giving and storage.
