Genuine coral grape cluster earrings continue to be adored today, as they have been for over 100 years. More often found constructed in red coral, the added allure of the pale angelskin coral variety with large cabochons, too, make them simply irresistible. These beauties have been retrofitted with 14K pierced posts plus feature thick 9mm hand carved button cabochons, too! With the soaring price of gold close to $1100/ounce, and labor costs up, retrofitting earrings can get very expensive. No worry, we have done the job for you so you can wear upon arrival!

Woven grape motif jewelry has been en vogue for over 100 years, in not only earrings but rings, necklaces, bracelets and pins. It is difficult to find excellent grape specimens in genuine white blush angelskin coral. Even today, supplies of angelskin coral in this shade is very limited for new jewelry creations, due to the coral harvesting bans. This type of coral is found much deeper than red coral, and grows only 1mm per year. Its harvest depended on deep sea fishing nets unattainable by divers. Harvests of angelskin coral were banned in the 1970's before red coral bans and stockpiled supplies are disappearing at a much faster rate than red coral.

These juicy grape dangles measure 1 5/8 inch from top to bottom, and feature a large 9mm coral cabochon button from which dangles a large grape that itself measures 27.5mm long, or 1 1/8 inches, by 15mm (5/8 inch). I love the extra large and thick button cabochons on these earrings and you will, too. More commonly this style features only a small bead or none at all. Substantial button cabochons are rarely found in modern coral jewelry. In addition, each bunch of grapes is fuller (wider) than most, measuring over 1/2 inch (flat) in diameter. They each feature a lovely gold vermeil over 800 silver (stamped) grape leaf. Total weight of these earrings is 9.0 grams, which is 2 to 3 times most found in this design.

They are in excellent condition with no damage whatsoever. The beads are strung with gold wire, not cotton or silk, and attach to a gold post that runs the interior length of each grape. Originally early clip-ons, you will find that all vintage/antique coral grape motif earrings were originally fitted with non-pierced screwback or clip findings. The new 14K pierced posts give these earrings a great modern update.
