This circa 1910 Italian carved cameo is a depiction of the very popular and coveted collectors' scene of the triumph of Saint Michael over the devil (or dragon). Carved from genuine carnelian shell in good relief (depth), the carving is very detailed and crisp and includes all his characteristic attributes such as his wings, armor, spear, banner and the scales which are rarely included in cameo scenes.
