This wonderfully carved head statue is from a private collection of museum quality pieces carved by Jose Pinal, (1913-1983).

Referred to as the Mexican "Picasso", this listed artist displayed his first carvings at The 1939 World's Fair Exhibition and became famous for his native Mexican themed carvings.

This wonderful detailed statue portrays a Mayan Warrior in a full eagle head dress which symbolically adornes his head front to back.

The full head carving is attached to a darker colored wood base, signed, J. Pinal and the bottom which has a stamped symbol, Made in Mexico, J.P. Produced 1950-1960's.

These vintage statues have greatly increased in value with the rarity and limited editions of some of his great carvings.

Measures 11 '' tall, 3 3/4'' wide and 3 3/4'' deep.

Condition is very good.
