Sterling Silver and 14K Gold Compact/Purse

Elegant and exquisite help to describe this six sided compact-purse from the circa 1909 era. This is so finely made of alternating stripes of 14k gold and sterling silver and marked as such . The handle is sterling mesh and the point of the purse ends in sterling tassels with tiny sterling balls on the end of the fringe. This piece is in excellent condition and is just as luxurious today as when it was made.The inside has a money clip on one side that is gold washed and has a beautiful design in the sterling. The other side has three coin slots and a compartment that opens. I imagine this was for powder or perhaps a picture keepsake. The front is monogramed with the initials MD for , possibly, My Darling! The compact has intricate and elaborate gadrooning in a fancy design on both the front and back edges. With the exception of soft scratches, this piece is in excellent condition. The clasps, hinges are good, no dents, pushes- just excellent quality and condition. Length(including bale) 3 3/4 inches: Width 2 1/8 inches: Sterling Fringe-1 1/4 inches: Mesh Handle- 5 inches
