This fine Cut Glass Inkwell with liner is from my personal collection. This is a heavy Brilliant Period six sided Cut Glass Inkwell. The bottom of this inkwell is a fine example of rich and crosshatch cut glass. The smooth walls and cut glass base are very thick , exposing the cut beauty of the base and the oval interior of the well through all sides. The top of the lid is embossed with a delicate flower and scroll design .The lid is signed 14KP . As you probably know, KP stands for plumb gold, or at least 14k gold (NOT PLATED) and this lid polishes to a lovely gold patina. This is a lot of gold! The outside of the well is also in excellent condition ;and while the liner has a chip,it is in fair condition. It is , to the best of my knowledge, original to the inkwell. There is a chip to the inner rim of the inkwell where it joins the lid. You can feel this when rubbing your finger around the inner rim. There is a lot of ink residue on the inner lid so this may not be so visible in the pictures. The hinge works well and shows no repair. This is an exceptional example of Victorian Art Nouveau design on the lid mounted on a heavy and very beautiful cut glass base. It is obviously a well made and expensive piece when it was made over a hundren years ago. It 's beauty and value have only magnified through the years. The inkwell is 3 inches across the base and 3.5 inches tall. Provenance: American, Circa:1890 The photos make the top look brassy, but it is actually a beautiful gold.
