A gorgeous large Victorian Front Facing Cameo Brooch made from Vulcanite, featuring a Bacchante, one of the followers of Bacchus, the Roman God of wine and fertility. The Bacchante has a wreath of vine leaves and bunches of grapes in her hair.

The Brooch measures 1 5/8 inches across and 1 7/8 inches down. The molded Cameo is raised above the base and the brooch measures approximately 5/8 inch deep. The Brooch is a very dark brown - I had to lighten the pictures slightly to show the detail clearly. The Brooch fastens with an extended pin and 'C' clasp.

The Brooch is in superb condition - many vulcanite pieces fade to a lighter brown with age and exposure to strong sunlight, but this has retained it's dark color. There is no damage to the Brooch - there is a tiny tiny indent on the outer rim of the base, but I believe that this is possibly a mold defect - although it could be a tiny nick. Barely visible, it does not affect the appearance of the brooch.
