Welcome to Bygone Beauties where you will find an array of interesting and beautiful vintage items. No Sensible Offer Refused
Not marked, but tested as 18kt Gold, the Lavaliere Pendant measures 1 7/8 inches long (not including the bale) and 1 1/8 inches wide. The Chain, which I have not tested, and is possibly not gold, measures 17 1/4 inches long and fastens with a pin shaped v-clasp. The chain is marked on a link 'SP' which I assume are the initials of the maker of the chain. The faceted Amethyst stones are all in serrated bezel open back settings.
The Lavaliere is in superb condition, there is absolutely no sign of any wear or damage, which provides the proof that jewelry should always be kept in it's box when not being worn! The box itself is made of heavy card covered in a soft blue silky effect paper which is embossed with a floral pattern. It is still complete, although slightly damaged on the corners of the hinged lid, and the outside is slightly scuffed and marked and faded with age. The box has taken the brunt of the last 100 odd years while preserving the contents in pristine condition!
A beautiful and all original Edwardian Lavaliere necklace, and perhaps the use of the amethyst stones with the green gold was intended to depict the colors of Scottish Heather or the Scottish Thistle. What a wonderful gift for a lady with a Scottish heritage.
