Hummel figurines were created through the artistry of Berta Hummel, a Franciscan nun called Sister M Innocentia. The first figures were made about 1935 by Franz Goebel of Goebel Art Inc., Rodental, Germany. One of the very popular subjects is the figure, "Apple Tree Boy", depicting a young boy dressed in colorful German clothing, sitting in an apple with between to sturdy limbs laden with ripe apples and green leaves. Perched on a branch beside him is a chirping blue bird. This figure has been produced in several sizes and this one is 10 1/2" in height. Marked in blue on the base with the TMK-4 three line mark which was used between 1968 - 1972. The stylized bee within a V and "(c) by W. Goebel W Germany" as well as impressed "142/V" indicating the pattern # and size and "1968". Decorated in vibrant colors, the figurine is in excellent condition with the exception of a large flake off the sole of his left shoe and a small flake off the edge of his right shoe. These could be quite easily professionally repaired. This is your opportunity to own a scarce size Hummel at a fraction of its retail cost.
