This is an antique doll head pin cushion that my mother had in her sewing room. She is 5 1/2" high from the tip of her headpiece to the end of the ruffled neck piece. She is 1 1/2" wide. Her brown eyes are glass and she has teeth. I don't know what the composition is. the patina of her face is dark. And her eyebrows and eyelashes are very distinct, clear and dark. I have no idea if she represents a type of jester or peasant of the time when kings and queens were ruling the land. Her nose is lighter at the tip from use. The scarlet ruffle is quite worn. Also the bow on the top of her head is worn. there are no cracks or chips. The back of the head piece has small holes where pins or needles were inserted.
This is truly an interesting piece. If you are a collector of rare and different pin cushions this is the piece to have. I really don't think there are many of these around.
I will be happy to answer any questions about this antique. She did not have a body. My mother had it a very long time. She lived to be 105 years old and did a lot of sewing.
After checking the photographs I took, I noticed that one picture has a line across the face. This is a hair and there is no cracks at all on the face. Then another picture has a piece of a fiber across it. the lips are not fully painted. They are a faint red.
