A rare Tresseman Vogt ornate gilded shell motif Limoges porcelain 5 well oyster plate is being offered for your consideration. It's decorations and backstamps may be seen on pages 86 and 87 of Jim & Vivian Karsnitz's book, Oyster Plates; the Karsnitz's list the plate as rare. This 8 1/2 inch beauty is in excellent condition and retains 90+% of its gold decorations. The Tresseman Vogt backstamp is Gaston's mark 16a, indication production between 1907-1919. The other back stamp is for W.H. Plummer & Co. of New York who sold high end porcelain from only the best manufacturers of the day to the upper class society of NY along with stores like Ovington Brothers and Higgins & Seiter. In addition to the 5 oyster wells there is a center lemon or sauce well. There are no chips, cracks or hairlines; the plate does exhibit some era typical anomalies; dust 'bumps', small glazed over imperfections etc. and some light wear and fading of the gold decoration. A fabulous addition to any fine porcelain collection!
