c.1900 large hand carved soapstone sculpture of a Phoenix bird and lotus flowers standing 10 inches tall is being offered for your consideration. The skill & patience it took to carve this multilevel piece awes us, there are even access holes in the back of the sculpture allowing the artist access to perform another layer of carvings. The pale jade green flowers and bird sculpture is setting on top of a mottled dark brown, almost black carved 4 footed soapstone base. The beautiful sculpture is in excellent, undamaged condition. There is a small white sticker with illegible smeared writing on the bottom of one of the feet and a little etched number '7399' on the underside of the base. We do not know the significance of the numbers, if any. The sculpture measures 10 by 5 inches and is a gorgeous work of art to grace any collection or decor!
