A gilded fine Limoges porcelain artist signed sauce boat/creamer adorned with hand-painted putti / cherub scenes by A. Lanternier is being offered for your consideration. This antique sauce boat was produced by A. Lanternier in Limoges, France between 1891 and 1914 (a partial stamping of Gaston's mark 4 and mark 6). This gorgeous sauce boat (we can just see it filled your other favorite sauce adorning a scrumptious gourmet pastry/strawberry tray at your next dinner party or tea with the girls) has 2 cherub scenes; one depicting a studious putti (plump scarf draped Renaissance era babies) setting on a large volume and busily writing on a tablet, the other scene is of two putti picking flowers (oh, just look at those angelic faces and the detail is wonderful). The two A. Lanternier marks on the back denote that the piece was both produced and decorated by the Lanternier factory, meaning the artist signing the piece (we can not make out the signature) was a professional craftsman working for the factory, and it shows in the quality, detail and artistry of the final outcome. The boat measures 3 inches wide by 3 1/4 inches tall by 5 1/2 inches long, retains 60-75% of its gilding and has no chips, cracks or hairlines. This beautiful piece is a work of Limoges porcelain art that will grace any collection of antique tableware or fine porcelain.
