A very rare Staffordshire transferware gilded covered asparagus boote' or platter in the teal/blue green Corsica pattern by John Maddock & Sons of Staffordshire, England is being offered for your consideration. To find one of these rare serving pieces is cause for excitement, to find one in excellent condition, as well, is extra special! This blue-green color is often referred to in reference books as a variation of flow blue. The platter has a tree and well embossing for draining the liquid away from the asparagus; it also has feet on the bottom which tilt the platter to assist in the draining. The platter portion measures 12 1/2 by 9 inches. The lid measures 10 by 7 inches and from table to top of the finale is 3 1/4 inches. There are no chips, cracks or hairlines and the glaze is bright and shiny. There are era typical anomalies; stilt marks, glaze pits, dust 'bumps, glaze skips and small iron flecks. Some light age appropriate crazing is present and remarkably 75-80% of the gilding remains. This would be a fabulous gift for the discerning collector in your life (yourself perhaps?)!

Please examine the covered platter in detail by clicking on the thumbnails or 'Larger Views'.
