This piece would not appeal to everyone, only those of you that enjoy living with old paint. This old pie safe has a pretty bluish grey color with a flat sheen. We do not question that this is the original paint. We have not altered ot touched up the paint. The punched tins are painted a warm rose color. They have a design that features a center diamond shape with stars within circles in each corner. The top has a simple peaked gallery. The cut out feet are in good shape, meaning they are not rotted and have not lost any height. The inside has not been painted. It doesn’t have any musty or unpleasant odor. There is absolutely no “mousy” smell. The top has lost much of its paint and is pretty much bare wood.
When we bought the pie safe, the latches that were on it had lost most of their interior working parts. We found 2 antique latches in our hardware collection that were in working order, and very similar to the ones that were on the pie safe. The doors are hung on lift top hinges with steeple finials.
The pie safe is 6 feet tall, 54 inches wide and 17 inches deep.
