This lovely bone china figurine, designed by Freda Doughty is entitled “The First Cuckoo” and was produced by Royal Worcester of England. It was introduced in 1935 and withdrawn in 1959. Freda Doughty was one of Royal Worcester’s most successful modelers of the era and specialised in children.

The highly sought after puce printed backstamp on the base reads: "Royal Worcester, Made in England, 3082”, then hand painted in puce “The First Cuckoo, modelled by F G Doughty”. It also bears the three joining circles with two dots on the left and three on the right, which indicates that this piece was produced in 1937.

It measures 16.5cm (6½ inches) in height. Condition is excellent, with no chips, cracks, crazing or repairs.

This is such a delightful piece and with the puce backstamp certainly makes it a rare piece.
