Robert Burns was born in a small cottage in Alloway, Ayrshire, Scotland, on 25th January 1759 and died on 21st July 1796. During his short 37 years he became Scotland’s best-loved poet, which continues to this day.
The central portrait of Burns is offset around the border with scenes depicting historic places relating to him. They are: “Birth Place of Robert Burns”, “Burns Monument, Alloway”, “Interior of Burns Cottage”, “The Cotters Saturday Night”, “The Brigs of Ayr”, “Tam O’Shanter”.
The under-glaze blue printed back-stamp on the base reads: "Copeland Spode England". It also has an impressed mark: “Copeland Spode Imperial J 39”. This indicates that this plate was produced in 1939. It measures 26cm (10¼ inches) in diameter. Condition is excellent, with no chips, cracks, crazing or repairs.
This is a wonderful vintage piece of Robert Burns memorabilia and an exceptional piece to display in any blue and white collection!
