This etching of Sweetheart Abbey in Scotland was produced by Gerald M Burn. It depicts the remains of a late 13th and early 14th Century Cistercian abbey founded by Devorgilla, Lady of Galloway, in memory of her husband John Balliol. Devorgilla is buried in the presbytery with a casket containing her husband's embalmed heart.

Gerald Maurice Burn was born in London in 1862 and died in 1945. He painted in oils and water colours and his subjects were mainly marine and architectural. He exhibited at the leading London galleries from 1891 including the RA and RBA. His principal works were "Launch of a Battleship", "Leaving the Thames" and "The Brittania".

Framed measurements are 24cm (9½ inches) by 26.5cm (10½ inches). The etching itself is 9cm (3½ inches) by 13.8cm (5½ inches). Condition is very good.

It is signed in the bottom right margin in pencil "Gerald M Burn". On the reverse written in ink are the words "Sweetheart Abbey".
