This lovely celery vase has some age to it (probably around the turn of the 19th century) as can be seen by the rubbing on and around the base and some tiny manufacturing bubbles and flaws. From the 1870s sets of matching tableware usually included a celery glass or vase and these remained popular until c1939. Blanched, sweet and crisp celery was a fashionable table item during this period. The flared and bulbous shaped body is mainly plain with a facet cut rim, a panel of large diamonds with alternating inset patterns of stars and pyramid diamonds between two rows of vertical cuts and lines. The footed base has a hand cut star pattern. It measures 15cm (6 inches) in height and 10cm (4 inches) in diameter. Condition is good with just a minute nibble on the rim, but because of the facet cutting this is very difficult to see and a very light scratch on the inside of the bowl, which is understandable for a piece of some age.
This is a large and very elegant vase!
