This lovely sugar bowl was produced by Shelley Potteries of Longton, one of the Staffordshire Potteries in England. The fluted, scalloped and moulded shape is called Dainty. This design was first registered in 1896. Made of fine white bone china it has been covered in a mother of pearl lustre glaze. Lustre ware was only produced by Shelley at the beginning of the 1900s. The green printed backstamp reads: "Shelley China, England, - Rd. No. 272101" and dates this pieces to c1913-1926. It measures 9.5cm (3¾ inches) in diameter and 5.4cm (2 1/8 inches in height). Condition is very good - apart from a minute pin head nibble to the glaze on the rim – only mentioned for accuracy as it is almost invisible to the naked eye. It pings beautifully! There are no cracks, crazing or repairs. This is a rare piece of early Lustre Ware and a must for any Shelley Collector!
