This expertly crafted black lacquer snuff box was made during the reign of George III, 1760-1820. It is of rectangular form with a pewter strung three part hinged lid which fits firmly and securely to the base box. The pewter stringing is in the elegant Georgian/Regency style, with some age wear and tiny flecks missing - this is hardly noticeable and really does not detract from it at all. The box itself has some scuffing on the base and some wear to the inside edges, which is normal wear for its age.
The lacquer work on the outside is still all intact with just a fine crack down the back and some light crazing to the top layer of lacquer on the inside base - only mentioned for accuracy. It measures 3 3/8 inches (8.5 cm) long, 2 1/8 inches (5.3 cm) wide, and ¾ inch (2 cm) deep. A fine period snuff box for your collection.
