This stunning transfer printed display plate was produced by Wood & Sons of Burslem, Staffordshire, England, c1907. The white china has been transfer-printed in brown/red with dark blue foliage and rim. The flowers and vines are hand-painted in iron-red, blue, turquoise and green enamels with gold finishing touches to complete this lovely early 20th century design called "Verona". It bears the Wood & Sons, England, mark used from c1907 to 1910 on the base, together with an imprinted "W639" and hand-painted numbers "1717" and "10". It measures 9 inches (22.5 cm) across and is in very good condition with no cracks, crazing or repairs. There are pad marks on the base where it was supported in the kiln during the firing process. It has obviously been a treasured plate kept only for display.
