About Us
My name is Julie Rawlings and I am a corporate accountant by trade. As you can imagine, my job does little to satisfy my creativity (since creativity in accounting is a bad thing). I have been making jewelry, painting, sculpting, and dabbling in photography since I was a child. I opened my shop on Ruby Lane in July 2001 and started by selling handmade jade jewelry. Several years ago a colleague of mine introduced me to precious metal clay. I had always dreamed of being a silversmith but could never afford the training or tools. I started to try and incorporate my love of wildlife and nature into my jewelry designs using PMC3. My favorite thing to do is take one of my wildlife photos, sculpt the image in polymer clay, and make a mold from the sculpture. I like this method because I can use the mold to reproduce the image if it proves to be popular and it is much easier than trying to sculpt with PMC3 directly. Lately I have been experimenting with transferring my wildlife images directly onto my silver pendants. I am an avid conservationist and a tireless advocate for animals both companion and wild. I am by nature very concerned about the environment and I am very inspired by the fact that PMC3 is a recycled product. It is made from the silver left over from film manufacturing. I am very passionate about protecting our planet and its wilderness. If you are interested you can see my original wildlife photos by clicking the Blind Wolf Spirit link in my favorite links (on the menu on shop home page).
As many of you already know, the name Blind Wolf Spirit was inspired by my Aussie mix Petunia who was born blind and deaf. Experiencing Petunia's resolve and creativity has helped me to put many things into perspective in my own life. Petunia never gives up and I have learned from her to have that kind of resolve in my own endeavors. This last year has been particularly challenging for my little business which almost did not survive but, I am too stubborn to give up so I trek onward. I hope you will find a piece in my shop that speaks to your soul. I welcome any questions or comments you may have about My items. Thank you for visiting Blind Wolf Spirit.
