Vintage Cobbler's Bench-Hand Made & Primitive

This piece belongs to a friend whose grandparents found it in a barn in New England in 1921 and it has been in her family ever since. The overall length is 42 1/2", width on the work area side is 21 3/4" and 21 1/4" on the seat side. The work area has a rear height of 19" and has an inside measure of 21" by 24". The work area has a wood strip along the back with 10 tool display slots and a raised triangle in one corner with 15 holes of varying sizes to display tools. Along the edge of the work area there are 8 small open compartments for displaying tacks and various other items used in the cobbling trade. The seat is leather and original and measures 14" by 16 1/2". Behind the seat is a storage area which serves as a seat back. There are also 2 drawers. I believe the piece is pine and it is definitely hand made. The drawers are not dovetailed so it could have been made by a cobbler for his own use. Definitely a unique primitive piece. I estimate the age to be the last quarter of the 1800's. It is not a heavy piece and I will assist the buyer in finding a suitable shipper for such a beautiful find.
