Our selection of American Art Pottery, lamps, and vintage collectibles reflects our personal fascination for collecting.
We recently purchased several items from a local New Orleans estate. The couple traveled to South East Asia during the 1950s and 1960s. There are items clearly from China and others from Japan and a few I suspect came from Vietnam. This is one of 8 carved stone finials from the estate and probably date to the period they traveled in the Orient. They are probably Chinese as 2 of them are marked with what seem to be Chinese characters, but could be from another country in the area.
This finial is 1 of 3 in this color (the one on the middle in the group of 3 picture), a rosy peach stone, carved on both sides in a pierced and carved pattern. I am not sure of the stone material, but it does not seem hard as jade but does have a smooth oily feel when rubbed between the fingers. The stone is 1 and 1/4 inches wide and is 1 and 7/8 inches tall, not including the lamp mount. The stone is wired to the metal and then soldered in place.
I have shown one of the 3 finials in natural sunlight and backlit by sunlight The 3rd photograph is the one on the left and the 2nd is the one on the left in the group of 3 photograph, but it is the same stone composition. The last photograph is a group picture of 7 of them (there are 2 rose colored). I can ship any number for the same price, however insurance cost will increase.
