Our selection of American Art Pottery, lamps, and vintage collectibles reflects our personal fascination for collecting.
We recently purchased several items from a local New Orleans estate. The couple traveled to South East Asia during the 1950s and 1960s. There are items clearly from China and others from Japan and a few I suspect came from Vietnam. This is one of 8 carved stone finials from the estate and probably date to the period they traveled in the Orient.
The 2 blue agate finials have artist mark characters which are probably Chinese and therefore the others are also; but they all could be from another country in the area.
This finial is 1 of 2 in this color of a lavender blue transparent stone that had a label of blue agate when we purchased them. There are white inclusions throughout the stone which can be seen on the surface and in the interior when the stone is backlit. The stone is quite translucent allowing much light to pass through the thick stone. It is carved on both sides in a pierced and carved pattern. The stone is 1 inch wide and is 1 and 3/4 inches tall, not including the lamp mount. The stone is thicker than the others in the collection. The stone is wired to the metal and then soldered in place.
I have shown one of the finials in natural sunlight and backlit by sunlight. The last photograph is a group picture of 7 of them (there are 2 rose colored). I can ship any number for the same price, however insurance cost will increase.
