Our selection of American Art Pottery, lamps, and vintage collectibles reflects our personal fascination for collecting.
The usually seen glaze treatment has a mustard colored highlights on the top and bottom while this one is a much lighter, almost tan color. The usual poppy treatment is dark green leaves and stem with a darker mustard for the petals. This one has a different palette and includes a blue I have never seen before on these pitchers. The flowers are a reddish maroon and a dark green was spotted on the flower base. The colors have been allowed to run and blend more than the usual and gives it a more majolica feel.
There is all over crazing which is typical of these high gloss glazes. The rim has a few chiggers on the inside rim that are felt more than seen. There is a small tight hairline of less than 1/2 inch on the lip. The largest insult is a flake off of 1 of the poppy flowers and is pictured. The flower stem next to it looks as though it took a bump in the kiln and is in the making, not post production. The bottom rim remarkably has only 1 small chip in the outer clear glaze only and does not affect the pottery. The pitcher stands 9 inches tall and is 8 and 1/2 inches from lip to end of handle.
A nice Poppy pitcher in unusual colors and fine condition. I have included a picture of "the usual" color treatment for comparison. It is Not for sale.
