SALE Japanese Satsuma Vase

Bittersweet Antiques presents this lovely Japanese Satsuma style vase. Although there is no mark, the vase is consistent with Japanese production from the turn of the last century. There is a hole drilled in the bottom center and there are also 2 provisions for the lamp cord; a hole in the base and a notch cut out of the bottom rim.

The vase is decorated with repeating patterns around the central body and upper neck in applied slip and highlighted with gold. There is some crazing present, mostly on the applied handles and around the top opening. The vase stands 12 and 1/4 inches tall and is about 7 inches in diameter at its widest. The top rim is 3 and 1/2 inches in outer diameter. There are no chips, cracks, or repairs other than the lamp modifications.
