This pair of original, hand colored, copperplate engravings – Plates XI and XX – are from Jacob L’Admiral’s: Nauwkeurige waarnemingenomtrent de veranderingenvan veele insekten of gekorvene diertjes. They were drawn and engraved by L’Admiral, edited by Dr. M. Houttuyn and published by J. Sluyter in Amsterdam, Holland, in 1774. The hand laid, chainlink, paper measures 10.5” X 16.5” with a platemark at 7.5” X 11.25”. These prints are in good to very condition with rich, vibrant, original coloring. Plate XI exhibits a minor “wet paper crease” and light mat burn. Plate XX shows very light toning and unobtrusive watercolor spotting in the upper right quarter. Please see all photos for condition. The prints are framed in highly stylized 20th century frames. They have been examined out of the frames and are not laid down and suffer no major defects. They have been returned to their frames with new archival boards and mats. The framed prints measure 13” X 17” each with a mat window of 8.5” X 11”. Please email questions. Additional pictures are available on request.
