This original, hand colored, framed and glazed, copperplate engraving is from C. Nico. Schurk and Peter Paul Trochel’s: Hippater Expertus, seu Medicina Equorum Absolutissima. It was drawn and engraved by Schurk and Trochel with text by Georg Simon Winters. The work was published by Wolfgang Endter in Nuremberg, Germany, in 1678. This print has been examined out of the frame and determined to be genuine and in very good to excellent condition considering its age. The piece features “reverse painted” glass and a somewhat distressed frame which probably dates to the 1950’s. It is now stabilized in an acid-free environment with new backing and wire. The framed print measures 15.5” X 12.5” with a window of 10” X 7”. Dressage prints from the 17th century are quite rare and, if found at all, are usually uncolored and in poor condition. This is a very nice addition for the serious collector of period dressage prints. Please email questions. Additional pictures are available on request.
