This is an original, hand colored, copperplate engraving from Mark Catesby’s Natural History of Carolina, Florida and the Bahama Islands. This imperial folio –The Ribbon-Snake - is from the rare 1777 German edition of Catesby’s work entitled: Piscium, Serpentum, Insectorum, aliorumque nonullorum Animalium. It was printed in Nuremburg by Johann Joseph Fleischmann. The matted print measures 17.25” X 20.75” with a mat opening of 10.25” X 13.75”. It is in an acid-free environment, enhanced by a hand colored, line and wash archival French mat, and shrink wrapped for protection. The image is in excellent condition and is a fine example of Catesby’s work from Volume II of the Natural History . . . The shrink wrap may cause some glare in the photos. Please email questions or for additional pictures.
