This original, hand colored, copperplate engraving - Honey Buzzard - is from: A Natural History of Birds, With Copper Plates, Curiously Engraven From the Life. Published By the Author and Carefully Color'd By His Daughter And Self. It was published by Eleazar Albin in London, in 1731. This is a rare example of a plate drawn by Albin's daughter, Elizabeth. She is the first English woman recorded as a painter and delineator of birds. Elizabeth is thought to have only drawn between 7 and 40 birds on her own. Her principal responsibility was to color the plates drawn by her father, Eleazar. This book plate measures 9" X 11" with a platemark at 8.25" X 10.25" and is in excellent condition. There is one repaired paper loss on the left edge of the plate. Please email questions. Additional pictures available on request.
