This very large bent glass 2 section rectangular serving platter with it's 22 karat gold and black "Forbidden Fruit" apple, pear and floral abstract motif on white opal measures a full 22" across and 13" high. (2" deep).
White opal is an opaque white glass which provides an extraordinary surface to show off the 22 karat gold and black screened pattern. Since white opal is usually bent by hand, irregularities in size and shape are to be expected. This pattern and more are featured on page 43 of the definitive book on Georges Briard, 'Designed and Signed...' by Leslie Pina,
This Eames Era/Atomic Age serving platter is in good vintage condition. 3 corners have a very slight chip on the bottom and chip or indent on the top. With 2 of the corners, this may be an imperfection as described above. There are some dark scratches on the bottom from use. Slight 1/2" brown discoloration on the edge of the bottom and about 1/4" brownish faint line on top. I have tried to describe the condition as best as I can. Please see pictures as well. Despite the wearing due to age, this piece is still spectacular and a wonderful addition to your retro serving pieces or Briard collection!
Please see my other Briard items as well.
