By master ribbon bow jewelry designer Marcel Boucher, our chunky sterling vermeil bow has beautiful rose pink crystal accents and glittery rhinestone pavé — simply fabulous!
This 3" wide x almost 2" brooch is also among the most desirable of Boucher's creations, marked with his early "Phrygian Cap" logo, and Sterling — not once, but twice! Boucher pieces with the cap and sterling marks were produced during the early '40s.
Frenchman Boucher excelled in jewelry with fluid, clean and elegant lines. Exceptionally well-made and designed, his pieces mimic fine jewelry (he did apprentice for the renowned Cartier before launching his own business). He is credited for "revolutionizing" costume jewelry by adding a sense of dimension and motion to ordinary flat jewelry.
Our bow has all of these qualities. It is strikingly pretty, with the 3-by-3 rows of princess-cut rose pink crystals in the center. On either side of the crystals are double loops and curling ribbon trails that look so 3-D! Clear rhinestones are encrusted on select segments of the ribbon bow, adding to the sense of movement.
The vermeil is rosy gold, giving the brooch a warm golden hue. The rose crystals, with their open backs, are delightfully translucent. This elegant brooch is chic, any which way you wear it!
Has held up good with age, although the goldwash has rubbed off especially around the edges, letting the sterling shine through. All stones are intact and glitzy; some may have been replaced at some point.
The sterling on the back is excellent. Marked MB with the Phrygian Cap and Sterling on both side of the rose crystals.
