HUGE 50% OFF Thanksgiving Sale!
This necklace and earrings set is dated 1956, or just a year after the iridescent AB rhinestones were developed by the Swarovski company and Christian Dior.
The costume jewelry world went ga-ga over these rhinestones, which have that special coating that produced a rainbow of colors, mimicking the aurora borealis or "Northern Lights". They remain popular to this day, but their heyday was in the late '50s, and this Hollycraft demi showcases the best they can be (as the company is famous for its multi-colored pastel creations, you might also call this rainbow-hued set a pumped-up version of its traditional style!).
The AB stones in this set have that bluish cast, and they flash the entire range of rainbow colors intensely. These rhinestones show off beautifully in their Victorian-style setting.
The necklace has large and smallish round AB beads in mini-dangles. Each of these bigger stones is surrounded by tiny ones, with a complementary paler blue-cast hue.
Antiqued goldtone setting and a Byzantine chain with AB links on the extension chain. Necklace has a hook clasp. It measures 18 1/2" long and is 1 1/4" wide along the AB centerpiece.
The matching earrings have the AB rounds, but also a smattering of pear-shaped and baguette ABs. Tight cluster with ribbon-like swirls. The earrings are 1 1/4" x 1" and are clipbacks.
The necklace and one earring are marked Hollycraft Corp. 1956. This demi is in excellent condition, with hardly any wear. The AB rhinestones are simply the best.
