You're looking at the mother lode of all chunky bangles!

This massive hinged bracelet is a Pre-Columbian inspired offering by Kenneth Jay Lane and features an Aztec-Mayan-Incan deity carved in lucite the color of rusty red coral.

How big is it? Well, the oval shaped bangle is 1 1/2" and from the inner girth to the outer edge is a bulge of 1". For sure, this is not for the faint of heart, but for the bold and the daring! Are you up to it?

From the '70s, when KJL produced pieces inspired by the Mayan, Incan and Aztec civilizations, which existed in the Americas before Christopher Columbus came (thus Pre-Columbian).

Lane says in his book "Faking It" that he was inspired by the "extraordinary" museums in Lima, Peru, Columbia amd even Mexico. He took great liberties with the motifs and created fanciful jewelry. "I hope that the gods . . . do not (get) angry with me for creating my own dieties," he says.

Our bangle has a pair of these KJL dieties butting just at the clasp. Each god has a big face with sharp eyes, flat nose, thick brows and the widest of grins. He has curls for hair and two pointy ears. His body consists of two overlapping diamond shapes that look like scales. The rest of the bracelet has a scale-like pattern as well. Maybe, KJL was thinking of the Aztec serpent god, Quetzalcoatl!

The lucite carved portions are encased in shiny goldtone a tad over 1/8" thick. Our bracelet will fit wrists up to 7". It has a hidden push-in clasp.

The bracelet is marked Kenneth and Lane over two lines with a copyright symbol before his surname. The logo is within an oval plaque. This is his known logo from the '70s.

Original owner was a true blue KJL collector, all the way from his earliest period. Almost every piece that I havefrom this collector, a famous Manhattan socialite — this one included — is rare to come by, according to my research.

This bracelet is in excellent, well-preserved condition. Very minor goldtone loss. Hard to pass up because you may not find one like this again out there!
